How do I decide between two (or more) opals?

Flip a coin! Buy them all! Wouldn’t that be fun! If that doesn’t take your fancy, you can send a shortlist to us or we can view your Wishlist and help you decide. Just Contact Us with a few opals you’re torn between and we’ll help you narrow it down. We love offering feedback and advice. We understand it can sometimes be tricky navigating gemstone purchases via an online platform so we make it a priority to offer assistance where we can. 

I’ve found the perfect opal. How do I place my order?

Yay! We love it when a customer finds their perfect gem.

All orders are paid for before shipping when you place the order via our website. Simply add your item or items to the cart. Go to the cart and check that only what you want to purchase is in your cart. Also ensure that the currency you want to pay in is displayed (AUD or USD)  and then proceed to the checkout page where we’ll grab all your details. 

We accept Paypal, Visa and Mastercard only. Please note, we do not store your credit card number on our servers.

If the card payment is declined by your issuer for any reason, we cannot hold goods against your order. 

Are there other ways I can place my order?

The easiest and safest way is via the website, however, if you are having troubles you can talk to a real life person via telephone +61 7 5577 4475 or simply email us. 

What currency do you sell in?

The website is set up in two currencies. At the top of every page on the right you will see a little flag. Click on the Australian Flag for Australian dollars or the United States flag for US dollars to be the method of payment. 

If you are outside these two countries, you can use whatever currency works best for you. For rough conversions we suggest using your own local bank exchange rate app. 

How can I pay for my order?

So, you’ve found your perfect piece (or pieces) and you’re ready to have it in your hot little hands. Woohoo! 

Orders need to be paid in full before shipping. We’ll need to process a full payment before we can get your gem off to you. When purchasing, your Credit Card or Paypal account is charged at the time you place your order. You can pay in either Australian Dollars or United States of America Dollars. We accept Paypal, Visa and Mastercard cards only.

Please note that we do not store your Credit Card number on our servers.

If the card payment is declined by your issuer for any reason, we cannot hold goods against your order.

Can I pay by bank transfer?

If you are in Australia you can pay via bank transfer. Simply select bank transfer as your method of payment and our bank details will be mailed to you. 

If you are in the USA you can pay via Fedwire or ACH transfer to our US bank account held in New York. Payment details are also listed on the website once this option is selected. 

For the rest of the world, PayPal and credit cards are the only two options at this stage. 

Can I pay by installments or layaway?

In some limited instances we may be able to offer you an installment program. An installment plan is usually only offered on opals over $1000 for a maximum of 4 months. Equal payments of 25% are required. An installment plan is at the discretion of management and not an automatic consideration for all purchases. Goods will only be shipped or made once payment has been taken in full. 

Do you offer Afterpay or Klarna?

Sadly, at this stage we don’t. Being a global business it’s not quite technologically possible to offer these services. 

Something weird happened. Did my order go through?

Uh oh, I think you have evil elves living inside your computer. That or there was a glitch, whichever is more likely. If you did not receive a confirmation email and are not sure if your order went through, contact us immediately.

EMAIL – Please email us. Provide your full name, mailing address and phone number to help us locate your order. For your protection – DO NOT email your full credit card number, this is not necessary. Contact Us and we’ll sort everything out, no problem.

Can I buy a gift card?

Opal is the most unique gemstone in the world so, sometimes letting them pick is the best gift. We have Gift Cards available if you’re:

  • Buying an opal and not sure what to choose?
  • Got a particularly picky person to buy for?
  • Left it too late for us to ship in time?
  • Not sure of the exact ring size?

Our Gift Cards can help you solve all these questions and make you look good in the process. Please select a value from $100 and email us directly. We’ll set it up and provide a payment link for you. We can even send you a voucher via email (within one business day) that you can print out or email directly to the recipient. What a marvelous gift to receive. 

Can I have my order gift wrapped?

We’re one step ahead and we’re already onto it! All purchases from Black Opal Direct arrive beautifully packaged and wrapped. Every order is wrapped with love and pretty packaging. We’re always trying to outdo each other with our ribbon tying skills, haha. 

Can I cancel my order?

Unlike a gym membership, canceling your order prior to shipping is pretty straightforward. You will need to use the Contact Form to contact us immediately. Orders are shipped on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday so you should contact us as soon as possible. We’ll be happy to intercept your order and sort it out for you.

If the order has already been shipped via FedEx we may be able to cancel the delivery however, there will be costs associated with this.

We would like you to read our Purchase Terms carefully to ensure that you are fully aware of your rights when purchasing items (Items) via the Black Opal Direct website (our Website).

Your order signifies your agreement to be bound by these Purchase Terms, which constitute the agreement between Gemfish Opals Pty Ltd trading as Black Opal Direct A.B.N.18 050 293 993 (we, us, our, or Black Opal Direct) and you.

Purchases

You must provide complete and accurate details at the time of making your purchase. You may be required to provide additional details upon our request to ensure the accuracy of your order.

You must enter the correct delivery address and delivery instructions at the time of placing your order. If you enter an incorrect address, Black Opal Direct is not obliged to re-send the order to the correct address at our own expense. Please email us immediately if you submit your order and then realise that you have entered an incorrect delivery address or delivery instructions.

Purchase Price

All prices quoted on the Website, or pursuant to any enquiry that you may make with us, are in United States Dollars (USD). International orders do not include GST. We also display prices in Australian Dollars. All orders in Australian Dollars (AUD) with a delivery address in Australia include GST.

We reserve the right to vary the prices displayed on the Website from time to time and without notice to you.

Our prices include insurance but do not include any secondary attempts to deliver Items to you.

Payment

Black Opal Direct accepts payment via PayPal, Visa, Mastercard and direct transfer (Australian and US customers only – other international customers by prior agreement only).

After you make payment for your order, you will receive a transaction confirmation email, which confirms receipt of your order.

In the event that Black Opal Direct does not receive cleared funds after 48 hours of you submitting your order, we will email you at the email address nominated in your order to communicate about your payment.

Security

We recognise that protection and safety of information relating to your credit card is very important. Therefore, we provide you with a very safe and stress-free online shopping experience.

We are PCI-DSS compliant and we do not store your credit card details at any time so consumer confidence and satisfaction is assured at all times.

Processing of Orders

Orders made via our Website will typically be processed within two (2) business days of your order being made and payment being received from us in cleared funds.
