This week I'm taking on three opals at once. Each one a long shot on its own, but together giving us three times the chance of uncovering something special. First up is a half witch's hat nobby already flashing green and orange on the surface. A hint at what could be underneath.
Sand spots, potch, and copyte needles make every opal a battle of its own. The results? Not exactly what I was hoping for. But the color that does come through still surprised me.
That's the thing about opal, even when it doesn't give you what you want, it finds a way to give you something worth looking at.

Would it have been easier to just have put them in the freezer overnight so that they would pop off of the wax? I loved that first stone that cracked.
