For the first time ever, Saxon went out and bought a piece of rough completely on his own. No safety net and no second opinion. Just a 250 carat nobby from the Wyoming field and a bit of courage.
On the surface, it wasn’t an easy piece to read. Thick dark potch. Hard-to-follow color bar. A few cracks to keep things interesting. It was the kind of rough opal that could either surprise you… or fall apart under the wheel.
Saxon started the cut himself, but when it pushed past his comfort zone, he sent it over to me to see what was really hiding inside. What we uncovered surprised both of us.
From bubbled color bars and black web to risky slices and big decisions, this one put us through the full opal cutting experience. And sometimes, when you stay patient and read the rough properly, opal rewards you.
If you’re interested in Saxon's first rough purchase want to see how a 250 ct nobby turns into finished gems, this one is definitely worth watching.

Here’s a polished version that keeps your tone but tightens the flow and clarity a bit:
Hi Justin,
Handing over the reins is no easy task, but seeing what Saxon has done with his first purchase must give both you and Ruth a lot of confidence.
A very tricky piece to cut as well — and I must say, the slice worked in your favour, giving you two chances to produce the best of the best.
I really enjoyed watching your presentation, and hopefully one day I might experience that same adrenaline rush you did.
Keep it coming.
Cheers,
Peter
If you want it slightly more casual or a bit punchier, I can tweak the tone too 👍

Hi Peter
Thanks for the kind words. I am very proud of saxon he’s really taken on his role up in Lightning Ridge and run with it. He’s not scared of approaching anyone to learn.

Thank you for the kind comments. Saxon is learning quite fast about opal. Hes out on the field most days learning the drilling and mining process and seeing nice opal in town. I’m very proud of him.
