If you’ve been following my journey in opal cutting, you know I’ve done a lot like cutting gems worth more than my car, explored mine shafts in Lightning Ridge, and even moved my family to the outback in pursuit of opal. But I can honestly say, I’ve never done anything like this before.
Why Carve an Emoji Out of Opal?
Opal cutting is full of surprises. I’ve been looking for a new creative challenge lately, something that pushes my skills in an unexpected direction. And this week, that direction involves a ridiculous (but fun!) attempt to carve an emoji out of opal.
Trying Something New (With a Little Help)
If you enjoy my videos, chances are you’re a bit like me: curious, creative, and just a little bit off-center in the best way. You love trying new things and seeing where the adventure leads. Whether it’s cutting a tricky piece of rough or carving a smiling opal with sparkling emoji eyes.
To help make it happen, I’ve got some fresh gear from Diamond Pacific and a piece of rough that’s just waiting to be transformed. It might be silly, it might be awesome but I’m here for the ride either way.
The Takeaway: Never Stop Exploring

Cutting opal is the same—sometimes you take a risk, and sometimes that risk turns into something surprisingly brilliant.
