There’s a reason opal rings are our most-loved pieces. With every flick of the wrist, opal reveals something new—flashes of color, unexpected depth, shifting patterns that dance in the light. Whether you’re drawn to bold, bright gems or subtle, slow-burn opals that reveal their magic over time (our designer Ruth’s favorite), there’s a ring for every kind of admirer.

From delicate and dainty to bold statement pieces, our ring styles are designed to let the opal shine. Many of our settings are unisex and most feature a protective bezel, which helps guard the opal from wear while letting the color take centre stage. We work with gemstones from under one carat to around five carats and are always happy to help you find the right design for your gem.

Because opal sits at 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale (compared to 9 for sapphire and 10 for diamond), it does need a little extra care. We always recommend wearing your opal rings for the moments that matter—think dinner dates, not deadlifts. While they love water, they’re not cut out for dishwashing or gardening. And always, always take them off in carpeted areas—not over a bathroom sink.

Many of our rings are ready to ship. If you see one you love but the size isn’t quite right, we can resize it (within two sizes) in 1–2 weeks. Or you can create your own. Choose your opal, pick your setting and metal, and we’ll create something uniquely yours—delivered in about 4 weeks.

Is it okay to wear an opal ring every day?

Absolutely—opal rings can be worn every day, but with a little extra mindfulness.

Australian opal is around 6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, which means it’s softer than diamonds or sapphires and can be more prone to scratches or knocks if you’re not careful. We design our rings with protection in mind—most feature a secure bezel setting or a raised surround to help shield the gem from impact.

That said, we like to think of opal rings as occasion wear for everyday life. They’re perfect for the office, dinner out, or a quiet moment to yourself—but maybe not so much for gardening, the gym, or doing the dishes. With the right care and consideration, your opal ring can be a lifelong companion—one that still looks as beautiful in 20 years as the day you put it on.

Can I wash my hands wearing an opal ring?

Yes, you can wash your hands while wearing your opal ring—and Australian opals don’t mind a bit of water.

However, we always recommend using a little care. Avoid exposing your ring to harsh soaps, hand sanitizers, or abrasive scrubbing, as these can dull the surface of the gem over time. A gentle rinse with clean water is fine, and it’s best to pat the ring dry afterward.

If you're about to do a deep clean or use strong chemicals, it's a good idea to take your ring off (safely over a soft surface). When in doubt, treat it like you would your favorite silk shirt—beautiful, unique, and worth the extra care.

What is the best ring setting for an opal?

The best ring setting for an opal is one that offers both protection and style—because opals deserve to be shown off, but also looked after.

We recommend bezel settings, which encase the opal with a thin rim of metal. This helps shield the gem from everyday knocks and reduces the risk of chipping or damage. It’s a favourite of ours and features in most of our designs for good reason.

For extra sparkle, we sometimes use halo settings or raised prongs, but only when they’re designed in a way that still protects the opal’s surface. Every stone is unique, and the best setting is one that complements its shape, size, and strength—while suiting your lifestyle too.
