Update: Matched Opal Pair

Yesterday I posted a picture of two opals that a customer requested we cut to a matched opal pair. This is the latest update on the matched opal pair.

When we asked the question to cut or not to cut an overwhelming majority said no – don’t do it!

Many of you felt that rather than cutting them, it would be better to sell as an asymmetrical pair for a pendant or a mismatched set of earrings (something that ‘s quite hot right now in the fashion world).

Another pragmatic soul said cut them only if the buyer will pay a premium and this is exactly what happened. At about 2.50cts each the buyer was happy to pay a premium for such a beautiful matched pair of amazing quality.

Here is the end result.
